A BORDERS primary school is calling for help to raise £6,000 to save its playground. The much-used wooden adventure playground equipment at Clifford Primary School, near Hay-on-Wye, has started to rot where the posts are sunk into the ground and the lower sections now need to be replaced. Thanks to a band of volunteers the estimated cost of the work has been cut from tens of thousands of pounds to £6,000, however the children are eager for the equipment, which forms an adventure trail, to reopen as soon as possible. Flo Stoney, parent and chair of Clifford School's parent teacher association said: "The play equipment has been there at least 10 years. The children love it but it was condemned last term." Fundraising events will now be held to raise the £6,000, beginning on Saturday, October 4, with a Harvest Dance at Clifford Hall organised by the PTFA. Tickets are available from Bartrums in Hay or from the school office – on 01497 831202.
