The countdown to next year’s Urdd Eisteddfod has begun with a parade through Brecon.

The Welsh language youth movement’s annual showpiece will be staged at the Royal Welsh Showground in Llanelwedd next May - the first time the event has been staged in Brecon or Radnorshire since it was last at the showground in 1978.

The parade made its way from Brecon High school, through the town centre, to the Watton playing field where a proclamation ceremony was held in Brecon on Saturday, October 7 which organisers say was attended by around one thousand people – and our photographer captured all the excitement.

Stephen Mason, the chairman of the Brecon and Radnor working party, said: "It was a well attended event, we had a lovely procession and we were lucky it was dry.

"We had some lovely banners made by the schools and had lots of support from parents and staff and local clubs. It was a good way to welcome the Urdd Eisteddfod coming to Brecon and Radnorshire."

The afternoon featured entertainment at the Watton field and various community organisations were also represented as well as Mistar Urdd, the organisation’s distinctive mascot famed for his red, white and green outfit.

The Urdd Eisteddfod which will be held at the showground from May 28 to June 2 next year.
