The 13th annual Penybont Speed Shear once again brought the community together last year, and has announced it has raised £8,009.59 for The Bracken Trust Cancer Support Centre.
The event, held on Bank Holiday Sunday, August 24 last year, at The Severn Arms Hotel, saw shearers, spectators, and sponsors combine fun and generosity in a day of high-speed competition.
Since its launch in 2012, Penybont Speed Shear has become a highlight in the local calendar, raising thousands for charities including Wales Air Ambulance, the British Heart Foundation, the MND Association, and most notably, The Bracken Trust. Over the years, the event has presented more than £40,000 to The Bracken Trust alone.
Last year’s earnings of £8009.59 were donated to The Bracken Trust on December 14.
Speaking on behalf of the committee, organisers said: “We’d like to thank all our sponsors, supporters and everyone that attended and were so generous in the money you gave! But thank you all, we all appreciate it very much! See you next year!”
The Bracken Trust expressed its gratitude to everyone involved: “A deep heartfelt thanks and gratitude to the Penybont Speed Shear committee for their unwavering support and hard work throughout the years. Also, to the many sponsors who generously support the event, to all the shearers for their competition energy and all the spectators who have so generously donated whilst being entertained.”
Organisers are already looking forward to the next Bank Holiday in August this year.
