Cantorion Llandrindod are making their final preparations for their upcoming concert ‘Voices of Wales Women in Focus’.
Their musical director Hilary Cox had the idea of performing a concert to celebrate the contributions of women to the Welsh musical landscape. After securing funding from Ty Cerdd Lottery Grants and The Gwendoline and Margaret Davies Charity, they have been able to bring this idea to life with a performance that will feature a string quartet and chamber organ.
The programme includes a Welsh premiere of ‘Wales Our Land ‘ a poem by an unknown Welsh American slate quarryman set to music by Hilary Tann in 2002.
Welsh poet, Ruth Bidgood is celebrated in a choral work of her poem "Country Church at Night".
A local composer Delyth Cresswell is recognised in her arrangement for String Quartet and Organ, of the highly popular choral work “Requiem" by Faure.
Other composers include Grace Williams, Rhian Samuels, Morfydd L Owen and Eleanor Daley, who whilst not Welsh, won the hearts of the music director and choir with her works.
The concert will include a mixture of old and new, traditional and modern - something for every lover of choral music.
‘Voices of Wales Women in focus’ will take place 7pm on Saturday, June 14 at Holy Trinity Church in Llandrindod Wells LD1 5EY
