STAFF at a care home in Libanus have been able to experience what it is like to live with dementia.

A “virtual reality dementia” bus visited The Mountains Care Home and equipped staff with head sets and sensory gloves for a full-body experience.

Provided by Training2Care, the virtual experience visited the care home on Tuesday, October 23 as part of The Mountain’s open day. A variety of professionals working within the healthcare sector were invited to the care home for training session.

A spokeswoman from the care home said: “The aim was for us all to be able to get a feel for what The Mountains has to offer and an opportunity to experience the virtual dementia tour.

“This was held throughout the day and gave everyone a glimpse into the world of those living with dementia.

“Attendance was very good and we would like to thank everyone who attended our open day.”

The virtual dementia tour is a scientifically proven method that builds sensitivity and awareness in individuals caring for those with dementia.

The experience temporarily alters participants’ physical and sensory abilities with props and circumstances to stimulate changes associated with physical and cognitive impairments.
