David Chadwick MP has said that people across Wales deserve better than the “constant chaos” of the Reform UK party, amid the recent news of the party’s leader Dan Thomas stepping down from his position after being arrested.

The party’s Welsh leader was arrested on suspicion of assault and controlling or coercive behaviour over the weekend.

He has been bailed pending further enquiries.

Mr Thomas said he had been reported to police over the weekend and was released without charge.

Following this news and the jailing of former Reform UK Wales leader Nathan Gill for taking pro-Russian bribes, MP Chadwick has said the party lacks stability and credibility.

The MP said: “Reform wants voters to believe they are a serious alternative government, but what we are seeing in Wales tells a very different story.

“The turmoil in their Senedd group comes alongside serious questions over huge crypto donations and the jailing of former Reform UK Wales leader Nathan Gill for taking pro-Russian bribes.

“Behind all the noise and headlines is a party increasingly showing that it lacks the stability, judgement and credibility needed to govern. We have seen that first-hand recently in Powys, where the party has been totally absent in the fight to save our hospital beds, instead choosing to attack those of us who were raising the alarm.

“People across Wales deserve better than this constant chaos. They deserve politicians who are focused on their communities and on actually getting things done.”

After stepping down as Reform Wales’ leader position, Dan Thomas said: “Over the weekend, I was reported to the police and was released without charge. I stress that I have done nothing wrong, but I do not want the coming headlines to be a distraction from the fantastic work our Senedd team is doing in holding this government to account.

“I will continue to serve my constituents in Casnewydd Islwyn and will fully back whoever the group selects as its next leader.”
