The TrawsCymru T4 bus service, linking Newtown and Merthyr Tydfil, will run to a new timetable from tomorrow (Monday).
The service, operated by Mid Wales-based Celtic Travel, is being altered to increase frequency on parts of the route and improve reliability. It will continue to connect communities through Bannau Brycheiniog, the Royal Welsh Showground, and a number of towns and villages along the way.
From tomorrow, buses will run every two hours between Newtown and Brecon from Monday to Saturday, with an hourly service between Brecon and Merthyr. On Sundays, the service will run every two hours, with hourly journeys between Brecon and Merthyr during the summer peak season.
There will be a “new cost-effective fares structure” in line with the wider TrawsCymru network. New buses are also due to join the route in March 2026, with operators saying these will offer better comfort and environmental standards. The service will be delivered in partnership with Williams Coaches of Brecon.
Lee Robinson, Executive Director for Regional Transport and Integration at Transport for Wales, said: “We’re excited to launch the enhanced T4 service with Celtic Travel. These improvements will offer greater flexibility and value for passengers, and the partnership model shows how regional operators can successfully collaborate to deliver high-quality public transport.”
Phyl Davies, Managing Director at Celtic Travel, added: “We’re proud to be taking on the T4 service and look forward to working closely with Transport for Wales to deliver a high-quality, dependable service. The new timetable and fare structure will offer greater flexibility and value for passengers, and we’re excited about the arrival of new vehicles next year to further enhance the journey experience.”
From tomorrow, Stagecoach will also launch a new X4 service between Merthyr and Cardiff. The route will run every 60 minutes, Monday to Saturday, and include Treforest Industrial Estate.
