Christ College Brecon will be hosting one of the Brecon Jazz Festival’s concerts on Saturday, 9 August, at 7pm.
The school will welcome well known jazz pianist, Geoff Eales, who will be supported by Matt Ridley on double bass and Sophie Alloway on drums. Tickets are available from the Jazz Festival website.
The college will also host Brecon Choir Festival on Saturday, 19 July, where they will welcome the wonderful choral scholars of King’s College Cambridge to perform in the historic school chapel, followed on Sunday, 20 July, by a discussion about RS Thomas, and a concert by the Hemiola choir celebrating his work.
Development Director at Christ College, Martyn Thomas, said: “We are delighted to be hosting events for the Brecon Choir Festival and the Brecon Jazz Festival. Music and singing are such an important part of school life at Christ College and we very much welcome the chance to open our doors to the community and to the very best of choral singing and the world of jazz.”
Christ College Brecon offers opportunities in music for both girls and boys across all age groups, from Year 3 through to Year 13. From age 7 to 14, pupils receive dedicated music lessons from specialist teachers, with many going on to study music at GCSE and A Level.
Soloists and ensembles have the chance to perform in weekly lunchtime concerts, as well as at formal end-of-term concerts, celebrations, and services, held in the beautiful 13th century school chapel and Brecon Cathedral.
Kurumi, a music scholar in Year 12, has been involved in music since she arrived at Christ College aged 11. She said: “Since I joined Christ College, I have been involved in so many different and new opportunities, from supporting my fellow musicians in instrumental competitions, through to playing Beethoven piano trios in lunchtime concerts with fellow pupils, as well as focusing on my violin studies in preparation for externally adjudicated competitions. I am now thinking of studying music at Oxford when I leave Christ College.”
Christ College offers music scholarships at entry to Year 7, Year 9 and Year 12. For more information contact [email protected]
