The launch of the Christmas festivities got under way in Llandrindod Wells on Saturday evening, with a torchlight procession from the market to the bandstand led by the Town Mayor Councillor Jon Williams and his family on Santa’s sleigh. Earlier there had been a competition to find out who had the best illuminated headwear and decorated costume. At the town bandstand the Llandrindod Wells Silver band played Christmas carols and the large crowd joined in. The Town Crier Janet Swindale led proceedings with some opening words on the bandstand and the Mayor Councillor Jon Williams was accompanied by one of the town’s longest serving fundraisers Lil Rauber as they pressed the plunger after a count down to switch on the the town’s Christmas lights and illuminate the town. Together they also presented certificates to those that were selected from the fancy dress and illuminated hats competition.
