Cllr Marie Matthews has been officially installed as Mayor of Brecon for the 2025/26 term.

The appointment was confirmed during the Annual General Meeting of Brecon Town Council, held at the Guildhall on Monday, May 12. Cllr Matthews succeeds Cllr John Powell in the role.

In her inaugural address, Cllr Matthews thanked her fellow councillors for the trust they had placed in her. She also announced plans to organise a Civic Sunday service later in the year.

During her mayoral year, Cllr Matthews will support two local causes: Brecon & District Dial-a-Ride and BCA Independent Advocacy Services. She hopes to raise funds and awareness for the vital work both organisations do in the community.

Cllr Sian Drinan was appointed Deputy Mayor.
