A social club has raised more than three hundred pounds for two charities with a coffee morning.

Gwenllian Morgan Court hosted the coffee morning to raise money for Brecon Dial-A-Ride and charity Tenovus Cancer Care.

Hosted on Wednesday, November 10, the group raised the amazing amount of £360 to be divided equally between the two charities.

The coffee morning included a raffle with around 20 prizes, a Name the Bear competition - the winning name was Enoch - and a variety of homemade cakes, fruit salads and “beautiful boxes” full of goodies as well as generous donations from those taking part.

Anita Kissane, of the Gwenllian Morgan Court social club, said: “Coffee and tea was provided for all of those taking part. We arranged a representative from Dial-a-Ride to collect a cheque for £175 and photo of our chair person, Margaret Maissen, presenting it.”

Brecon Dial-a-Ride is a charity which offers an essential service in the tow with the use of its wheelchair-accessible minibuses which takes elderly and disabled people to various appointments and to complete errands such as shopping. Anita said: “They are invaluable for many of our residents.”

A cheque for £185 was also donated to Tenovus Cancer Care which has recently been raising awareness of breast cancer awareness.

The charity, which has a shop based on Bethel Square, help provides different forms of support for those living with cancer as well as their loved ones.

Katrina Gray, who gratefully accepted the cheque on behalf of the charity, said they are very grateful for the “sweet” gesture.

She said:”They’re an amazing group of people and we’re so grateful because they’ve done such a wonderful thing for us.

“I was really grateful to receive what is almost £200 for such an amazing cause. It’s really amazing.”
