THEATR Brycheiniog and Brecon Jazz Club are teaming up this year to open the Brecon Jazz Festival 2018 with a special concert.

On Thursday, August 9, Dixieland Jazz with the Rhys Taylor Dixie Band will perform in Theatr Brycheiniog’s main house auditorium, launching a weekend of festivities across Brecon.

The opening concert will feature musician, Rhys Taylor, and his Dixieland Band, in a collaboration between Theatr Brycehiniog and Brecon Jazz Club. Clarinet and sax player, Rhys, who says he is honoured to be invited to perform, will be joined by a top line up of south Wales’ finest musicians in a sextet, playing ‘Dixie’ style jazz.

The Waterfront at Theatr Brycheiniog is also offering an exclusive pre-show dining option for attendees: enjoy a curry supper, a drink and entry to the performance for £20.

Elizabeth Jeffreys, vice chair at Theatr Brycheiniog, said: “We are delighted to collaborate with Brecon Jazz Festival on this very special opening concert. The festival is such an important occasion for Brecon, and something that the whole town can embrace and feel proud of. We can’t wait to welcome locals and visitors alike to enjoy the high calibre music of Rhys Taylor and his Dixieland Band.”

Brecon Jazz Club organisers, who are responsible for curating Brecon Jazz Festival this year, said: ‘this is a really positive initiative that will make a genuine contribution to the Festival weekend by extending it, while also providing an opportunity for the public to hear a wonderful band of musicians. We were therefore very happy when contacted to get involved, and to help develop and promote another attractive event in the Jazz Festival weekend’.
