BRECON Town Council has begun a process to register 'Brecon Jazz Festival' as a registered trademark with the Intellectual Property Office (IPO).
The idea has been suggested by Brecon Jazz Stakeholder Group, which brings together a number of organisations, including Brecon Town and Powys County councils, and individuals with an interest in the long running festival.
Town councillors agreed to progress the trademark application at their May 28 meeting.
However, some councillors raised concerns that after the stakeholder group meeting (on April 12, where it was decided that the town council should hold the Brecon Jazz name), two individuals of the group set up a limited company (the following day, April 13) and registered internet domain names connected with the Brecon Jazz Festival.
