In a landmark decision Powys County Council’s Cabinet has supported plans to establish a joint director of workforce and organisational development for the council and Powys Teaching Health Board.

Professor Vivienne Harpwood, chair of Powys Teaching Health Board, said: “We are driving forward with the integration of our health and social care services, which will help us meet the growing demands of the county’s ageing population.

“This joint role builds on the progress we’ve already made bringing our organisations together, and is central to developing a joint approach to support our staff with the skills they need to be most effective.

Leader of Powys County Council, councillor Barry Thomas said: “I am pleased Julie Rowles will be joining us in the role of joint director of workforce and organisational development. Integration poses new challenges for both organisations in terms of planning for, and supporting our workforce.

“Julie will be supporting the council in a number of strategic areas, including internal organisation development, workforce strategy, recruitment and retention, and workforce management, including appraisals, performance management and employee structures.”

After her appointment Ms Rowles said: “Powys is leading the way in public service transformation and enabling our staff is key to our success. We have an ambitious agenda and I’m looking forward to meeting the team to discuss how we will progress collaboratively.”
