LETTERS have been delivered to Powys County Council staff informing them of new pay structures, which will see some staff losing wages.

The authority says 16 per cent of affected staff will see their salaries reduced, but 66 per cent will have their pay boosted.

It says it has been working for 'some considerable time' to establish a pay and grading structure, together with terms and conditions of employment that are fair and equitable to all its employees to comply with legislation aimed at removing unfairness in how staff are paid.

Councillor Gareth Ratcliffe, the cabinet member for human resources, said: "The council and trade unions will do everything they can to minimise the impact on staff experiencing a reduction in pay and intend to provide as much support as possible including opportunities for retraining and redeployment."
