A Powys councillor said he was delighted to receive an application to his community funding grant from the “thriving” Llandrindod girls’ football club before donating money to help supply kits.
Jake Berriman, the councillor for Llandrindod Wells North, donated £100 to the Llandrindod Wells Junior Girls Football Club to make it even more accessible and to help supply football kits for North Ward residents.
The Liberal Democrat presented the cheque to head coach Julie Christopher on Wednesday evening, January 19, where he said the atmosphere was “fun and lively”.
He said: “I was delighted to receive an application to my Llandrindod North Community Grant Fund from the thriving Llandrindod girls’ football club which has over 120 members aged 5-16, including many talented youngsters from the North of the town.
“The girls are seen here at their weekly training session on the all weather pitch at Ysgol Calon Cymru, preparing for the monthly football festivals hosted here in the town and at other Powys clubs every month.
“The atmosphere at the club tonight was fun and lively and it was delightful to see so many young people enjoying themselves playing sport.
“The club provides the opportunity for the girls to train together and to receive proper coaching to bring the very best out of them.
“All the girls pay subs, however these are kept as low as possible to ensure that as many girls as possible can access the club.
“When playing matches, the girls wear the smart team kit which they provide for themselves at a cost of £20, but that is a one off payment which means the girls can change their kit for the next size up when necessary.
“Although the club tries to help out with low income families, the £100 I am donating from my Grant Fund will help make the club even more accessible or be be used to help supply kit for North Ward residents. I wish the girls and the club every success in the future.
The club is part of Llandrindod Wells Football Club which provides different teams for players of different levels and ages.
Based at Lant Avenue in the Spa town, the foot ball club is a popular feature in Llandrindod Wells with most residents..
