AMBULANCE crews have claimed parts of Powys are being left without adequate cover as vehicles are regularly deployed to South Wales.

Ambulances based in Breconshire are regularly being used to cover shifts in South Wales, including Gwent, Merthyr and areas of Swansea - according to Welsh Ambulance Service employees.

An insider told The Brecon & Radnor Express: "South Powys ambulance crews are being deployed to other areas to cover their shortfalls in shift crews which leaves stations in our area depleted by manpower for large periods of time."

Brecon & Radnorshire AM Kirsty Williams, the leader of the Welsh Liberal Democrats, said she has previously raised the deployment of Breconshire based ambulances with Welsh First Minister Carwyn Jones.

The Welsh Ambulance Service said crews are deployed to areas they were most likely to be needed and that ambulances bases are only used for staff to report to and to store vehicles and equipment.
