A LOCAL support group for Tearfund, with representatives from three churches in Llandrindod, were on hand to accommodate, feed and encourage two cyclists during their charity bike ride from Land’s End to John O’Groats.

Moved by the plight of refugees across the war-torn parts of the Middle East, John Mainwaring, from Denbighshire, along with his friend Trevor Stephenson from Chester, is fundraising for Christian relief and development agency, Tearfund.

Tearfund is a Christian aid and development agency, which responds to disasters and helps communities to overcome poverty, aross the Middle East.

“Every £32 we raise can provide two families with hygiene kits, providing essentials such as soap, washing up liquid, shampoo and toothpaste for two months,” said John. “And every £80 can provide a whole community with a water tank, giving a continuous supply of safe water and keeping families safe from the spread of water-borne disease. My target is to raise £25,000.”

Andy and Chris Bull, who hosted the cyclists overnight as they passed through Crossgates, said: “It was a real privilege for us to have the guys stay with us. They obviously have a huge heart for the displaced families of the Middle East and are undertaking a journey that we would find daunting by car – let alone on a bike!”
