The council’s consultation on plans to limit parking at the Orchard Street and Duckham’s Yard car parks in Llanfaes to local residents only formally closed on Good Friday, March 25.
But town councillors have been told Powys council will accept objections up until Thursday, March 31.
Brecon Mayor David Meredith said: "The council agreed to accept objections but they have to be dated March 25."
The mayor and other councillors raised concerned at the impact on local businesses and residents if parking is restricted.
The council has proposed limiting parking in the two car parks to local residents who would have to pay £65 for annual permits.
The council is also proposing to introduce residents’ parking at Tremont Road in Llandrindod and Market Street Knighton.
As well as proposing to introduce residents’ parking schemes the council has also consulted on introducing parking charges for the Ridgebourne and Town Hall car parks in Llandrindod; the Station Yard car park Talgarth; Station Road, Sennybridge and bypass car park in Presteigne.
Charges for cars would run from 70p for a hour’s parking to £3.20 for more than four hours cars and motorbikes. Overnight parking for cars and motorbikes will remain free.
A spokesman for Powys council said all feedback received during the consultation period will be considered by the council at a later date.
