FOUR people have died in three separate incidents in the Brecon Beacons on what was the hottest weekend of the year so far in Powys.
Two Territorial Army reservists died while on a training exercise on Saturday, July 13, near Pen y Fan and a man in his 50s died while swimming in the Ponsticill Reservoir.
The following day a 24-year-old man also died while swimming in the Cantref Reservoir.
Police are investigating the death of Lance Corporal Craig Roberts, 24, from Penrhyn Bay, Conwy and another TA soldier, who has not been named, who were taking part in an SAS selection exercise on Saturday when the temperature rose to 30ºC (86ºF).
Three other soldiers were also taken to hospital following the incident and one remains in a critical condition.
Also on Saturday a 52-year-old man, who has not yet been named, died while swimming in the Ponsticill Reservoir in the southern end of the Brecon Beacons National Park.
A 24-year-old Caerphilly man, named as Daniel Colin Clemo, died in the Cantref Reservoir, beside the A470 between Brecon and Merthyr, on Sunday afternoon.
Welsh Water, which owns both reservoirs, said the deaths are a grave reminder of the dangers of swimming in reservoirs.
