A DIABETES campaigner from Brecon has met with her local AM Kirsty Williams at the Senedd to mark Diabetes Week.
Sara King from Brecon, who has Type 1 diabetes, met with the politician
during a Diabetes UK Cymru event intended to give people affected by diabetes the chance to address some of the myths and misconceptions about diabetes with their local representative.
The charity’s theme for this year’s awareness week is ’Setting the Record Straight’.
Each of the supporters who attended on the day has a connection to diabetes as they or a close family member are living with the condition.
Sara is also part of Diabetes UK Cymru’s ‘Diabetes Voices’, a network of people who campaign to influence and improve diabetes care in Wales. They took the opportunity to discuss local services for people living with diabetes in the area and what impact the condition has on their daily lives.
Diabetes UK Cymru’s director Dai Williams said: "The Diabetes Week event at the Senedd was a brilliant way for people across Wales to talk about their experiences of the condition with their local AMs.
"We want to thank the Sara, the other supporters who joined us, Kirsty Williams AM and other AMs from across the country for joining us.
"Diabetes Week is an important time for people affected by the condition to share their concerns and tackle some of the myths about diabetes with their representatives.
"It is also a fantastic opportunity to highlight that with the right healthcare, support and management, diabetes doesn’t have to hold anyone back."
