PUPILS from Crickhowell Primary, Llanbedr Church in Wales, Llangattock Church in Wales and Llangynidr Primary schools took part in the Education Education Scheme Wales/STEM F1 in Schools primary challenge at Crickhowell High School.

Pupils worked in teams of four to design and manufacture a high quality model Formula 1 car, powered by a cylinder of compact compressed air.

The teams were able to test their cars on a 20-metre track. Each team prepared a presentation which they delivered on the day before racing their cars.

A floor track was set up and co-ordinated by EESW/STEM representative Chris Harris where pupils were able to start their cars using a system of lights just like the ones used on real F1 events.

Pupils needed to watch the lights and wait for them all to go out before they hit the button that released their cars at high speed down the track.

Chris Harris showed the pupils how to use computer software to design and modify their cars.

The pupils learned the importance of working as a team to produce a high quality product and were able to apply STEM skills.

Pupils will take their final designs to the F1 in Schools regional finals in Swansea in May 2019.
