Well-known local Elvis impersonator, Keith Davies BCAv, performed a sell-out concert at the Clarence Hall on Saturday night, raising more than £3,000 for the Hall’s Refurbishment Fund.
Keith Davies, who owns Abergavenny Electrics, is well known for performing hundreds of charity gigs with his band the Memphis Mafia. The ‘Elvis is Back’ concert helped boost the Hall’s fundraising appeal to over £176,000.
Exciting plans are in place for phase one of the Clarence Hall’s refurbishment, including a new and upgraded kitchen, new toilet facilities, a new disability access toilet and baby change, a small bar and an accessible entrance.
An essential part of the project is to make the building more accessible for people with disabilities, for older people and for parents that are using buggies and pushchairs.
During the event, Keith was presented with a Certificate of Appreciation on behalf of the Hall’s Management Trustees by Chairman, Dean Christy.
Mr Christy said: “We were delighted with the success of the concert, which means that we are a step closer to raising the £195,000 required to undertake the first phase of our refurbishment programme.
“Keith has been a supporter of the Hall over a number of years and once again, we were privileged to benefit from an outstanding performance by Keith Davies, an absolute local legend”.
The Hall still needs to raise further funds to preserve and enhance this important community asset.
Events in planning for 2022 include a Hymns and Pimm’s evening, monthly Bingo and various concerts, including a performance by The Band of the Prince of Wales and an exciting return by Elvis during the year.
