Crickhowell’s Green Man Festival is in with a chance of being named the best festival in the world.
The popular music and arts festival, held at Glanusk Estate every August, has been nominated for two awards at the BandLab NME Awards 2022.
The awards, founded by the popular music magazine, celebrate the best in pop culture across the worlds of music, film, TV, gaming and beyond over the last year.
In a thrilling double nomination, Green Man has been put forward for both ‘Best Festival in the UK’ and ‘Best Festival in the World’.
Green Man is one of five nominations for the national cateogory and one of only 10 in with a chance to win the worldwide award.
Some of the festivals Green Man will be facing up against for top honours include Serbia’s Exit Festival, Japan’s Fuji Rock and the UK’s own Reading and Leeds Festivals.
Fiona Stewart, managing director and owner of Green Man, said: “Putting on the first large event in Wales safely following the 2021 COVID lockdown was incredibly challenging. Many performers, contractors and crew hadn’t worked for over a year and some companies wouldn’t recover if Green Man was cancelled again.
“Everyone involved including the audience, local supporters, Rosemarie Harris and the rest of the Powys councillors and officers made that extra effort to make it happen and create the safe and magical event it became.
“To have Green Man nominated for ‘Best Festival in the World,’ along with some of the most prolific festivals across the globe and the only independent festival on that list, is an absolute honour and recognition that together we can make anything happen in Wales.”
The winners will be revealed at London’s O2 Academy Brixton on March 2.
