Cantorion Pontsenni (The Sennybridge Singers) had an experience they would never forget on St David’s Day this year.
The group, made up of Sennybridge YFC members, were invited to perform at a reception in Number 10 Downing Street by local MP Fay Jones.
The event, held every year is the Prime Minister’s celebration of Welshness and the culture of Wales on our National day
They were introduced on to stage by the Secretary of State for Wales Simon Hart and sung a number of pieces to MPs and distinguished guests. The group ended the reception by singing the Welsh National Anthem, raising the roof off Number 10.
Ms Jones and the singing group said that thanks must go to Peter Weavers for driving the minibus extremely early, battling through the traffic jams in London, due to the tube strike, and getting the group there on time.
To perform at Number 10 was such an honour and an incredible experience for us all. Being in a building steeped with history was an unforgettable moment.
After the performance Fay Jones, MP, took the group to visit the Houses of Parliament and provided a tour of the historic building before the journey home, through the traffic again.
Fay Jones said: “It was an absolute privilege to be involved in part in the arranging of the St David’s Day ‘Eisteddfod’ celebrations in Parliament this week. Hearing the Welsh National Anthem sang in Number 10 sent goosebumps through everyone in the room. I couldn’t be any prouder and I must thank Cantorion Pontsenni for making the day so special.”
