The list of celebratory events that will be supported by the St David’s Day Fund 2026 has been published by the Welsh Government.
The £1 million fund will help community, regional and national groups celebrate the day of Wales’ patron saint, Dydd Gwyl Dewi, on 1 March. Organisations will be awarded grants ranging from £500 for small community groups to £40,000 for nationwide events.
92 events will be held across Wales between 16th February and 6th March 2026.
In Mid Wales the list of celebratory events include: A full‑day bilingual celebration at Brecon Market Hall with schools, music, storytelling, puppet‑making, author visits, and games aligned with Curriculum for Wales.
A local community Eisteddfod celebrating St David’s Day will take place in Rhayader, showcasing performances, competitions and culture.
Organisation Arts Connection will host a bilingual arts, music, storytelling programme that will deliver family workshops, school days; creating exhibitions, installations and banners across Powys.
The Welfare in Ystradgynlais will also host a revived banner parade with schools and women’s arts group; bilingual workshops will take place to create individual flags and collective banners together.
The social media campaign 'Random Acts of Welshness' will also return, alongside events run by the Welsh Government’s overseas offices and food and drink promotions in Cardiff and London.
First Minister Eluned Morgan said: "I'm thrilled by how many people wanted to be involved with the St David's Day Fund. There will be events right across Wales, from small community gatherings to celebrations run by national organisations.
"I’m especially pleased with the range of ideas put forward – exciting new ideas with well-known traditions.
"St David's Day 2026 is going to be brilliant and I'd like to thank everyone who applied. Together, we're going to make Dydd Gŵyl Dewi extra special this year."
Cllr Matthew Dorrance, who has led the work on behalf of Brecon Town Council said: “I am delighted that the Welsh Government has backed our plans to celebrate St David’s Day in Brecon.
“Our event will bring children from local schools together to celebrate our culture, heritage, language, traditions and the modern Wales we’re proud to call home.
“We have excellent theatre companies, artists, singers, musicians and story tellers all coming to work with the children and I think it’s going to be a very special day that they will remember for some time.”
Mayor of Brecon, Cllr Marie Matthews added: “Wales and Brecon have so much to be proud of and I am pleased that the Town Council is able to stage this special event. It would not be possible without the funding from the Welsh Government and dedication of the organisers. St David is remembered for his simple but powerful message: “Gwnewch y pethau bychain” — do the little things. That message is especially important in schools, where small acts of kindness, effort, and respect can make a big difference every day.
“I am looking forward to what will be a brilliant day for Brecon.”
