Talgarth Town Football Club Bingo night bagged an incredible £1,000 for Ukrainian Emergency Relief.

Our television screens are moving away temporarily from Ukrainians fleeing for their lives to other devastating images of the genocide of those who remained, only to be brutalised by Putin’s retreating forces.

In the midst of this, the compassion of communities around Brecon and Radnorshire remains undiminished.

Nowhere was this more in evidence than in Talgarth, where members of Talgarth Town FC Committee brought together people of all ages for a special fundraising Bingo Night for Ukraine.

Local Mums Leanne Williams and Laura Like teamed up with Club stalwart ‘Tiny’ Harding to transform the Pavilion for the night, with football professional Gareth Davies multi-tasking as bingo caller.

The evening was enjoyed by all, with a huge array of bingo and raffle prizes.

Talgarth Town Club Chair, Keith Parry, praised the organisers and said:

‘Talgarth Town was at its best tonight and I’m proud of our members and supporters, for coming in numbers and giving so generously.’

And this theme was picked up by Talgarth County Councillor, William Powell, who was present on the night:

‘Talgarth Town has a proud and “colour-blind” tradition of supporting refugee causes. For several years, the Club has hosted refugee football fixtures, in partnership with Gwernyfed RFC and Hay BreconTalgarth Sanctuary for Refugees (HBTS4R.)’

‘Tonight again saw such a great turnout and we should also thank the many individuals and businesses locally who donated prizes so generously. In the face of suffering and heartbreak, it shows our community at its best.’
