A family have paid tribute to a "devoted fiancé and loving dad" who was killed in an afternoon crash on a country road near Glasbury-on-Wye.

Simon Dodd, who was 53 and from Caerphilly, died when his black Vauxhall Corsa was involved in a crash with two other cars on the B4350 on a stretch of the road known locally as Sheep House bends.

In a heartfelt statement, they said: “We are absolutely devastated by the tragic loss of Simon Dodd, aged 53 years, from Trethomas, Caerphilly. He was a devoted fiancé and loving Dad to his children. He lived life to the full and will be remembered for his larger than life personality.

"Simon was a huge football fan and a keen Manchester United supporter. The family would like to thank everyone for their kind wishes, that mean so much at this awful time and we appreciate your continued support.”

Dyfed-Powys Police said the crash happened on the road between Hay-on-Wye and Three Cocks at around 3.40pm on Monday, September 3.

A force spokeswoman said: "Police can confirm the man who died in a fatal road traffic collision, between Hay-on-Wye and Three Cocks, is 53-year-old Simon Dodd from Caerphilly. Our thoughts are with his family, who are being supported by specially trained officers."

A passenger in a green Range Rover suffered serious injuries in the crash and was earlier this week said to be in a stable condition in hospital.

The Range Rover and a blue Vauxhall Zafira, the other car involved, were travelling towards Hay-on-Wye and Mr Dodd is thought to have been travelling towards Three Cocks.

Dyfed-Powys Police have appealed for anyone with information to contact them on 101.
