Kington Market saw a quality entry of 733 prime lambs and 239 cull sheep on Thursday, November 6, with McCartneys reporting a sharp trade across all weights.

Lambs averaged £139.41 per head, with a standard quality quotation (SQQ) of 307.1p/kg. Top prices reached £176 for 57kg lambs from H & L Powell, while W D Layton also sold lambs to £170 per head. The best price per kilo was 335p/kg for 37kg lambs from V J Lloyd. The top ten pens of lambs per head all sold for £152 or more, and the top ten per kilo all exceeded 320p/kg.

Despite a slightly smaller entry, demand remained strong, particularly for 40–45kg export-type lambs, which regularly traded between 310p/kg and 320p/kg. RCS & EA Edwards achieved £142 for these weights, while AE & LJ Morris saw 322p/kg. Heavier lambs over 45kg were slightly harder to place, but the best types still sold to 309p/kg or £176 per head from H & L Powell. Light lambs under 40kg reached 335p/kg from V J Lloyd, and the market could have absorbed more of these smaller weights.

The cull ewe trade was also strong, with the best meated sorts £10–£15 dearer than last week. Grazing ewes remained in high demand, many selling for £90–£120, while buyers were active across all grades and types.

Auctioneers thanked vendors and buyers for their continued support and encouraged entries for future sales.
