The Brecon Premier Sale of Pedigree Limousin Bulls and Females, held on Saturday, May 10, showcased an impressive display of top-quality genetics, with a notable surge in both prices and commercial interest.

18 bulls sold to an average of £7,536.67, a £1,642 increase on last year’s figures.

Leading the way at 15,000gns was Orlham Uzi PP, a homozygous polled and double F94L bull, bred by Messrs GH, JM, and MJ Samuel from Leadington, Herefordshire. This two-year-old was the first lot through the ring and stood out for his top-tier genetic credentials, including excellent birth weight and maternal calving ease traits. Uzi PP’s outstanding pedigree, with roots in Ivoire through his dam Orlham Poppy, was enough to convince buyer J Quant from North Whilborough, Devon, to add him to the Quants’ herd.

A strong show of bulls followed, with many attracting top prices. Ashledge Victorious, a 15-month-old bull bred by AG Kirton and Sons, secured 10,000gns. With his top 1 per cent Beef Value (LM64) and impressive muscle/fat depth EBVs, he caught the eye of M Evans from Pembrokeshire for his Sarahlou herd.

The sale continued to deliver impressive prices, with Poole Viking (9,800gns), Cowin Upbeat (9,000gns), and Cowin Ulster (8,500gns) all commanding strong interest from buyers.

The final bull lot, Treloweth Vanguard, a February 2024-born bull from A M C Eddy, sold for 7,000gns. He was purchased by T and M Lewis of Llandrindod Wells.

The female section also proved highly competitive, with Cowin Rhydwen leading the way at 5,200gns. This four-year-old daughter of Plumtree Fantastic, sold with her September 2024-born bull calf, Cowin Vtastic, was purchased by R John from Llandybie, Carmarthenshire, for his Gwyddfan herd.

Other females, including Cowin Savannah (4,500gns) and Cowin Urockgirl (4,200gns) also attracted strong interest.
