S4C has announced its coverage plans for this year’s Royal Welsh Show, with live broadcasts, digital streams and highlights programmes bringing the event to viewers across Wales and beyond.

Coverage begins tonight (Sunday), with Rhagflas y Sioe (Preview) at 9pm, ahead of four days of live coverage from Monday, 20 July to Thursday, 23 July.

Viewers will be able to watch competitions and events live on S4C, S4C Clic and BBC iPlayer, with English commentary and subtitles available.

For the first time, S4C’s digital coverage will include live streams of the main beef cattle championships on Monday and Tuesday afternoons, as well as shearing competitions from the shearing shed from Monday to Wednesday.

Four live feeds will cover action from the Main Ring, North Ring, South Ring and Central Ring from 8am each day.

Evening coverage will include Heno, broadcasting live from the showground at 7pm, while current affairs programme Pawb a’i Farn will also come from the event on Wednesday, July 22.

The S4C news team will provide updates throughout the week via its website, app and social media channels.

A highlights programme will air every evening at 9pm, with presenters including Nia Roberts, Alun Elidyr, Ifan Jones Evans, Meinir Howells, Aeron Pughe, Hannah Parr, Heledd Cynwal and Gwion Ellis bringing viewers coverage of competitions, entertainment, food and crafts.

Nia Roberts will present from the Royal Welsh Show for the 20th time this year.

She said the event continued to evolve while maintaining its traditional roots.

“The traditional foundations remain strong, but it’s great to see the event continuing to move forward,” she said.

“There’s something for everyone at the Royal Welsh Show: the competition rings, Young Farmers’ activities, produce in the Food Hall, sheep shearing and, of course, the Main Ring entertainment. It’s the perfect opportunity for us to appreciate rural life in Wales.”

Following the show, S4C will broadcast the Corwen Sheep Shearing Championships live on Saturday, July 25, before a special Royal Welsh highlights programme airs on Sunday, July 26.

A special edition of Garddio a Mwy featuring the show will also be broadcast on August 10.
