The world’s largest philosophy and music festival being held in Hay-on-Wye from May 22-25 has revealed its line up.
How The Light Gets In gathers Nobel Prize winners, politicians and comedians together with some of the hottest music performers and is staged at the same time as the Hay Literary Festival.
This year, the festival’s theme is titled ‘Uncharted Territory’ which aims to bring issues such as climate change and political populism to the forefront.
The summertime festival promises talks from sex robot theorist Kate Devlin, controversial drug policymaker David Nutt and former leader of the Liberal Democrats Vince Cable.
They are among the famous guests that will take part in debates, such as ‘Tomorrow’s World’ which asks whether technology offers a rosy future or threatens our safety, privacy and mental health.
The festival not only offers debates and talks, visitors can enjoy intimate roundtable discussions with a guest speaker in groups of 10 or 12.
Aside from the philosophic events held at the festival, music acts will be held at the site on the edge of Hay-on-Wye.
Prolific musician and composer, and Ivor Novello Lifetime Achievement Award winner, Nitin Sawhney will be at the festival.
He is known to have collaborated with the likes of Paul McCartney and Nelson Mandela, and scored TV and film pieces from Human Planet to Mowgli.
Making her debut at How The Light Gets In, Ayanna Witter-Johnson, soulful singer and cellist, will showcase her musical talent that gained her a spot performing at the MOBO awards.
A mixture of lounge, indie, psych and exotica music will be brought to the festival by Richard Colburn and Chris Geddes, members of the Scottish indie group Belle and Sebastian.
The Correspondents were ranked in The Telegraph’s top ten Glastonbury moments and will bring their flamboyant presence to Hay-on-Wye.
Festival Director, Hilary Lawson said: “We’re delighted to be returning to Hay next May for our eleventh festival by the river.
“Hay-on-Wye represents an escape from the urban status world, where festival goers can leave their anxieties behind”.For tickets and details please visit howthelightgetsin.org/hay
