Llandovery Community Cinema is delighted to announce the next film in its expanding Welsh-language programme: Tanaur Lloer (Fires of the Moon), a highly anticipated new release supported by Ffilm Cymru.

The December showcase promises not only an immersive cinematic experience but also a warm, community-focused evening celebrating Welsh culture, storytelling, and shared space.

Doors open at 5.30pm on Saturday, 20 December at Llandovery Community Cinema. A shared community meal will take place at 6pm, with the film screening at 7pm.

A post show Q&A with Directors Chris Forester & Patrick Young will also take place.

Tanaur Lloer (Fires of the Moon) - with English subtitles - is the only Welsh-language feature film scheduled for release in 2025, making this screening an exciting opportunity for local audiences. Atmospheric, haunting, and visually striking, the film blends elements of Welsh folklore with contemporary themes such as grief, memory, and mental health.

Its operatic soundscape, performed by the Welsh National Opera, deepens the emotional resonance and elevates the film into a richly layered artistic experience.

Inspired by Caradog Prichard’s modern classic Un Nos Ola Leuad, Fires of the Moon, set in the 1950s, follows a writer who receives unexpected news that sends him on a sombre train journey back to his childhood home. As the night unfolds and the railway winds through the landscape of his past, half-forgotten memories rise to the surface. He is forced to confront his personal history that shadows his return. The film’s evocative imagery and nuanced performances capture both the beauty and fragility of memory, offering viewers a poignant reflection on home, loss, and the boundaries between reality and recollection.

Llandovery Community Cinema’s Welsh-language programme was established to celebrate and strengthen the cultural life of the town and surrounding area. With invaluable support from Ffilm Cymru, the initiative continues to bring a range of Welsh-language films to local audiences, fostering cultural pride while providing accessible opportunities for both fluent speakers and learners to experience cinema in our shared language.

The selection of Tanaur Lloer reflects the cinema’s commitment to showcasing bold, compelling Welsh filmmaking. The screening will appeal not only to Welsh speakers but also to those who appreciate atmospheric storytelling, visual poetry, and films rooted in the landscapes and narratives of Wales.

The evening’s shared community meal, held before the screening, is open to all and free with your ticket (£5) available at the LYCC, on the door or online, here:
