Fire crews are in attendance at a fire on Gwastedyn Hill near Rhayader in the direction of a TV mast.

The crews are currently dealing with the situation.

A spokesperson for Llandrindod Wells Fire Station said: “Due to the volume of smoke in the area, combined with smoke from the ongoing fires in South Wales, we recommend that residents in affected areas keep all doors and windows closed until conditions improve.

“If you spot any further fires, please call 999 immediately. If possible, provide the call taker with a What3words location. What3words is a free app that provides a unique three-word location for areas on a map, accurate to within a few metres and available on the app store.

“Providing this information can greatly assist crews in locating an incident quickly and can also help ensure that your call relates to a new fire location rather than an incident crews are already dealing with.

“We would like to thank all of our local communities for their continued support and cooperation during what is an extremely busy period for emergency services.”
