HUNDREDS of people congregated in Hay-on-Wye on Saturday for the town’s 15th Winter Food Festival.
Despite the wet weather, hordes of enthusiastic foodies turned up to sample the produce from 45 local traders.
Organiser Andrew Powell, the catering manager for the Old Railway Garden Centre, said: “November may mean winding down with celebrations for everyone else, but for me it’s all go.”
Local food producers started transforming the Memorial Car Park in Hay from 10am into the food haven which Andrew described as “bursting with Welsh flavour”.
He said: “Eating, drinking and reading are just about the most enjoyable things you can do in your spare time, so it goes without saying that if you like good food, good company and a good book then this was the festival for you.”
This year’s market featured the Rhymney brewery, Caroline’s Real Bread Company, the Welsh Eccentric Company, Bedazzled Honey, the Welsh Whiskey Company, fresh Welsh cakes from Trallong Ladies and hams from Neuadd Rach Baconery.
There was also entertainment from various local choirs.
John Evans from Hay Market said: “There are lots of reasons to buy local food wherever possible and we are really pleased that residents and visitors to Hay-on-Wye are making concerned decisions about where their food is sourced.”
