A former Chairman of Powys County Council has died aged 88.
Dorothy James of Scethrog, Talybont-on-Usk, passed away last Thursday (June 1). She was a member of Powys County Council from 1973 until 2008 and represented the Llangors and Talybont-on-Usk electoral divisions.
During her time with the authority, she was Chair of Council in 1993/94 and was Chair of the Education Committee. Mrs James also represented the council on a wide range of outside bodies, including the Brecon Beacons National Park and the Community Health Council.
Cllr Rosemarie Harris, Leader of Powys County Council, said: "Dorothy was a well-respected member of the community and her opinions were always highly valued within the council chamber during her time as a councillor.
"On behalf of everyone at the council, I would like to offer my sincere and heartfelt condolences to Dorothy’s family and friends."
