SHE’S best known as Snowball Merriman in Bad Girls and Veronica in Emmerdale but now Nicole Faraday will be taking to the stage in Brecon as part of Three Women and a Piano’s evening of harmonies and comedy songs.
The show stars Nicole, Katherine Mount - who has worked closely with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales - and Amanda Posener.
Teresa Barlow is the producer of the show and will also be accompanying the ladies on the piano.
The ladies will be singing and performing songs on topics relevant to women the world over.
They will also be inviting the audience to join them to decide what should be taken with them on the ’Isle of Women’ and be part of creating a new colony of women where high heels could be a thing of the past.
Producer Teresa Barlow said:"They will have you laughing one moment and crying the next."
Isle of women promises to be a mixture of raucous, sharp and witty comedy anthems, heartfelt songs and honest chat expressing life for women of a certain age.
All songs featured in the performance are original tracks from numerous female writers.
A complete interview with Nicole Faraday revealed how she feels about the performance.
This is what Nicole, who is starring alongside Vinnie Jones in the new movie Kill Kane, had to say:
Q: What is the performance about?
Nicole: It’s an all original comedy show that hopefully will appeal to everyone. It is mainly aimed at ladies but hopefully men can also relate because most men have some females in their lives whether its a partner, sister, mother or daughter. The show has a lot of audience interaction which keeps it fresh because it makes the performance different every time.
Q: How did you come to be a part of it?
Nicole: I came to be a part of this show because I played Eva Cassidy in a show that toured the UK for four months. Teresa was the musical director and Katherine Mount played my sister. The three of us toured together so we were already friends. In this show my role was written for me really which was a real privilege. So I was always going to take part because us three are such great friends and I new we would get along because we had already toured.
Q: Does the content mean anything to you personally?
Nicole: I am a bit of a closet feminist. There has been so much debate about gender equality, especially in my industry because male actors still get paid a lot more than female actors for leading roles. It’s good to highlight these things in a comedic way.
I was in Bad Girls which was the first prime time British drama where all the protagonists were women. Three women and a man directed the series and I think Bad Girls was quite ground-breaking really. It was certainly my big break anyway.
They new that my background was in musical theatre so I was asked to play the leading role in the Bad Girls Theatre Performance. I won best supporting actor and we took the show to the West End. Since then the production has lived on and you can still buy Bad Girls the Musical on DVD. Altogether this was years of work for me so I’m a bad girl through and through!
Q: Have you every been to Brecon or Wales before?
Nicole:We used to go on family holidays camping in Wales. We always visited Dan Yr Ogof caves and loved seeing the big dinosaurs. I also spent a lot of time in wales last year while filming Kill Kane near Swansea. That was great I’m starring alongside Vinnie Jones in a gangster-type film.
"I also wanted to mention on behalf of Catherine Mount that she sung in a series of concerts called Feel The Music with the National Orchestra of Wales. She does concerts for the deaf where the idea is that they get close to the instruments and feel the vibrations and everything. She has done this for her son Ethan who is deaf and has recored a famous song called Ethan’s song which is beautiful and can be found on YouTube.
Q: What do you think the women in the audience will get out of it?
Nicole:Hopefully they will laugh and cry. We have some very poignant moments We sing one song about mothers which everyone seems to really relate to. One thing that we really want to get across is that we are all different as women and we come from different backgrounds and we have debates between the characters. The overall theme is that we are very different but we are all women and we are united by the fact that we are women and are proud to be.
The show will take place at Theatr Brycheiniog on Friday, April 8. For more information contact the box office on 01874 611622
