A host of Powys care home workers were celebrated for their outstanding work and dedication during the past year at a recent award ceremony in Builth Wells.

Staff came together at Llanelwedd Jubilee Hall for Shaw healthcare’s Regional Star Awards Ceremony to honour those that have been a shining light for care home residents, visitors and colleagues.

The 24 nominees are based across ten different care facilities – Wylesfield, Prestemede, Greenhill, Trenewydd, The Grove, Cartref, Maes Y Wennol, Llys Hafren, Brynhyfryd and Cartref Dyfi.

The nominees will now go through a selection process, with some going through as finalists at the ‘National Shaw Star Awards’ in November, later this year.

Some of the nominees included Lynne Dodgson, from Trenewydd Care Home in Brecon, who was nominated for the ‘Care and Compassion Award’. Lynne has devoted over 30 years to the home and was applauded for making such a positive impact on the lives of those she has interacted with over the years. Colleagues complimented Lynne on her ability to make residents smile and laugh, and for giving her “heart and soul” to the job.

Meanwhile Barbara Hadley, who is the Quality Improvement Manager for the Powys region, won nominations for the ‘Service Support Award’. Barbara was singled out for providing “invaluable support” to the Powys region. Colleagues praised Barbara for her priceless knowledge and experience.

There was a special prize given out to Maes y Wennol care facility in Llanidloes, which received the highest Carehome.co.uk award. The home has improved its rating month-on-month, achieving a rating of 9.9.

The national awards aim to celebrate the achievements of exceptional staff members across Shaw’s 60 registered services across the UK.
