Boots has said the decision to discontinue its Sunday pharmacy rota in Brecon was made due to "pharmacist availability".

The pharmacy in the Brecon branch used to be open every other Sunday for one hour, although this has now come to an end.

A Boots spokesperson told the Brecon and Radnor Express: "Like other pharmacy businesses, we are experiencing pharmacist resource challenges.

"Our teams are working very hard to keep stores open, minimise disruption for customers and provide the best possible service.

"Due to pharmacist availability in Brecon, we have made the decision to no longer open for an hour every other Sunday."

The Boots store in Brecon is open from 8:30am to 5:30pm (Monday to Saturday) – all other opening hours remain unchanged.

Boots added that supporting the Sunday rota is supplementary and said they are not obliged under their contract with the NHS to offer this service.

MS for Brecon and Radnorshire James Evans criticised the plans earlier this week, adding that the the move would be "keenly felt" by people living in the area.
