Cancer Research Wales is hosting an afternoon of scientific discovery in Brecon next month.
A Science Café will be held at Brecon’s Guildhall, on Friday, October 14 between 11.30am and 2pm.
Hosted in conjunction with the charity’s Brecon and Sennybridge Committee, the free event offers the opportunity to learn about world-class cancer research taking place in Wales and to get hands-on with exhibits, including a giant inflatable bowel.
During the event, there will also be talks from leading Cancer Research Wales researchers.
Dr Pam Smith and Dr Gwenllian Moody will speaking about their TIC-TOC project - A new cancer awareness campaign that is being trialled to optimise cancer awareness in deprived communities in Wales.
Professor Andy Tee will present on his work focused on how cellular signalling influences cancer biology.
As well as the giant inflatable bowel, there will also be a flow cytometry game (a technology that rapidly analyzes single cells or particles) and a 3D drug discovery exhibit to explore.
In an informal setting, attendees will have the opportunity to meet Wales’ leading cancer researchers and learn about their work which is all possible thanks to the supporters at Cancer Research Wales.
Dr Lee Campbell, Head of Research at Cancer Research Wales, said: “We are delighted to be holding a Science Café event again . These events are an opportunity to get hands on with some of our exhibits but to also learn more about the discoveries our researchers are making to help transform the lives of people affected by cancer across Wales.
