A team of fundraisers has raised £10,000 for Powys Health Charity after completing a series of tandem skydives to mark its 30th anniversary.

The challenge was originally due to take place at Swansea Airport on July 26, but was postponed twice because of poor weather.

Despite the delays, participants remained committed to the fundraising effort, completing their jumps between August and October.

The group spent several months securing sponsorship, organising fundraising activities and raising awareness of the charity's work.

The £10,000 raised will go towards projects, services, equipment and improvements benefiting patients, staff and communities across Powys.

The charity's head, Martin O’Brien, also took part in the challenge.

He said: “It was scary, thrilling, exciting and so much fun all rolled into one breathtaking moment.

“Even though we were hurtling towards the ground at 125mph during free fall, it felt as though you were completely motionless.

“The clear blue skies meant we could see for miles, taking in the beauty of the Swansea and Gower coastline below is something I will never forget.”

Participant Sam Powell said completing the 15,000ft jump had been an unforgettable experience.

Despite feeling nervous beforehand, he said he was determined to conquer his fears and raise money for the charity.

He described the jump as both “exhilarating and empowering”, and thanked everyone who had donated and supported the challenge.

Powys Health Charity also thanked GoSkydive in Swansea for its support and professionalism, as well as everyone who contributed through donations, sponsorship and encouragement.

The anniversary skydive is one of a number of fundraising activities taking place this year as the charity celebrates three decades of supporting healthcare services across Powys.
