Kirsty Williams has called on the First Minister for chemotherapy treatments to be available at Llandrindod Hospital and other community hospitals in Brecon and Radnorshire.
The AM for Brecon and Radnorshire wants Powys Health Board to make chemotherapy services available in the community so patients in Powys do not have to travel so far for treatment.
Ms Williams said: “It would be an enormous help to cancer patients in Mid Wales if they could receive chemotherapy in their own community. Currently, many constituents are travelling well over an hour to access chemotherapy services in other district general hospitals, yet there are no clinical reasons why those services could not be provided in community hospitals in Brecon and Radnorshire, eliminating the need to travel as far.
“The First Minister promised the health minister would respond to me and I look forward to receiving a positive response. We need to try to increase the number of health services people receive in rural communities and this would be a positive way of achieving that.”
