LAST year, Gwernyfed Community Council recognised the need for a defibrillator in Three Cocks and put plans in place for the life-saving equipment to be purchased and installed in the village.
The installation of the equipment was delayed due to the electrician having an accident, which meant they were not able to install the defibrilator. But it was soon installed by local resident and electrician, Paul Merrett, through the help of the newly established Three Cocks Matters Community Group.
Including installation fees, Gwernyfed Community Council spent £1,502 on the defibrillator and the cabinet it belongs in.
Chairman of Gwernyfed Community Council, Mike Bugler, County Councillor William Lloyd, Chair of Three Cocks Matters, Nick Pritchard, and some local residents came together to celebrate the opening of the defibrillator on Friday, November 25.
Chair of Three Cocks Matters Community Group, Nick Pritchard said, “The community are so grateful to know we now have such a vital piece of life saving equipment in Three Cocks and right among the Gwernyfed Estate.
“We thank Gwernyfed Community Council in buying this, and it is good to know that a local electrician was used to install the defibrillator unit.”
The defibrillator is located on Gwernyfed Avenue in the village.
Training sessions are currently in the process of being organised by the Gwernyfed Community Council through the Welsh ambulance service, for any local residents who wish to learn how the defibrillator works.
A date and venue will be shared to all local residents who may be interested.
