Volunteers are needed to continue helping to deliver the Coronavirus booster programme in Powys.

According to the Powys County Council website, volunteers have provided 26,404 hours of their time to date at the vaccine sites in Bronllys, Builth Wells and Newtown.

The way-finder marshals support people receiving their Covid-19 jabs, from signing them in when they arrive to assisting in the queues.

On its website, the council said: “They [the volunteers] have made a huge contribution towards Powys leading the way with its vaccination rates, but as the booster programme speeds up to meet Welsh Government’s aim of offering an appointment to all eligible adults by the end of the year, the need for more volunteers has increased dramatically”.

To date, 2,489,359 people have received their first dose of vaccine in Wales, meanwhile 2,301,321 have received their second dose and 1,594,972 have received their booster jabs according to the Public Health Wales website.

According to the PHW vaccine summary, Powys Teaching Health Board has administered a total of 296,638 doses overall - that includes first and second doses as well as the booster.

Before Christmas, Adrian Osborne, Programme Director for COVID-19 Vaccination for Powys Teaching Health Board said: "When our first vaccination clinics took place on 8 December 2020 it was difficult to foresee the journey ahead, and that we would be here a year later still providing such an important injection of hope for so many.

"The success of the programme in the county has been astounding. Now, over a quarter million total doses have been delivered. And as we approach Christmas, over 70,000 people have already received a booster to offer vital protection ahead of the festive season.

“Please do use our online booking form to book your booster appointment online before 31 December if you have not yet received it

"This has only been possible because of our volunteers, partners and health care staff working together for the people of Powys. With the acceleration of our vaccination programme in recent weeks, our volunteer support has been even more important to us as we have seen the highest levels of booster vaccination taking place in the county.”
