James Evans wants to see “pop-up clinics” provided in his constituency to help monitor people’s sexual health.

The Brecon and Radnorshire MS asked at the Senedd about the availability of sexual health screening in Mid Wales.

He said sexual screening in his constituency is predominantly done by Sexual Health Wales.

But Mr Evans said: “Recent data has shown that the uptake has been relatively low in comparison to other constituencies.

“Other recent data has shown that chlamydia and gonorrhoea, along with other diseases, are on the rise in my constituency.

“It’s vitally important that we give as many people the opportunity to be screened so they don't go undiagnosed with life-changing conditions.

“One way that we could potentially do this is by offering pop-up clinics across my constituency.

It was part of an independent review that was recommended to Government.

“I've a number of venues in my constituency that'd be happy to do this.”

Mr Evans asked First Minister, Mark Drakeford, if he would work with the Health Minister and Public Health Wales to make sure clinics are available so that no-one can go undiagnosed with conditions in his constituency.

Mr Drakeford said that free online test kits for sexually transmitted infections and blood-borne viruses are available from the Sexual Health Wales service.

He said: “This offer increases access to sexual health testing across Mid Wales.

“Test kits will also be available at community outlets in Powys from January.”
