Holocaust Memorial Day is being commemorated once again by Builth Wells Heritage Centre, writes Mal Morrison.

The idea was proposed by Builth Wells Town Council last year and it has been decided to continue to mark the Holocaust by putting on a window display for the month of January, and giving out free booklets and badges to visitors to the centre.

The actual memorial day is January 27 and this year’s theme is Ordinary People.

Many of the books on display are available from Powys libraries and it should be remembered that it is not just the horrific events of World War II but many other genocides that have occurred in places like Rwanda, Cambodia, Bosnia and Darfur that are being remembered.

Ordinary people were involved in all aspects of genocide, ordinary people turned a blind eye and let it happen, ordinary people were the victims.

Please let us all remember the Holocaust and try to ensure that it never happens again.

Call in at the heritage centre for a free badge and wear it proudly on January 27 this year.
