STAFF on a hospital ward are swapping their clogs for trainers to take part in a five kilometre run.
A total of 13 staff from the Llywelyn ward at Bronllys Hospital, including ward manager Michelle Sweet, will be running the Pretty Muddy 5k in aid of the Cancer Research charity.
The event takes place at Singleton Park in Swansea on Saturday, July 21 and the course, over mixed terrain, will see the runners also having to tackle obstacles, including a big slide, over the 5km distance.
Health care assistant Holly Millis said: “It is the first charity event we have done on the ward together and we have staff nurses, health care support workers and domestics all joining in.
“We thought it would be a nice thing to do as a group together and also raise money for Cancer Research as we do have patients coming in to the ward who are affected.”
So far the group has raised around £600 for the charity and are still seeking donations. As part of their fundraising efforts the team will also be selling cakes donated by Mandy Mills who works for the health board.
The 13 ward staff are also being joined by Jade Evans who works with the Powys health board’s district nursing team and three other runners including Zoe Chappelle whose mother Christine Brute works as a domestic on the ward.
The other members of the team are Michelle Morgan, Michelle Sweet, Rose Jones, Stella Dickson, Julie Smith, Linda John, Holly Millis, Sue Pryjmak, Judith Davies, Joy Jones, Leah Creamer, Chloe Charles, Diane Williams and Megan Rawlings.
