A PLANNING application to alter a farmhouse and build an orangery extension and annexe there have been approved by Powys County Council’s planning committee.

The application was made by Julie Davies, the wife of Cllr Aled Davies (Conservative, Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochnant – Llansilin).

As a planning application made by a member’s relative it was automatically brought in front of the committee.

Planning officer Gemma Bufton said: “The proposed side extension has been positioned set back from the main building line and has also been designed lower in height, resulting in appearing to be a subordinate extension and addition.

“Whilst, it is considered that the orangery designed extension is considered to be unusual addition consideration has been given to the entire scheme as proposed.

“When viewed with the proposed side extension, the front extension does provide an element of modernisation to the existing dwelling.

“Therefore, the proposed front extension is seen to provide symmetry across the front, complementing that of the proposed extension.”

Ms Bufton added that there had been no objections and that she recommended approval.

Committee solicitor, Colin Edwards, added: “Just very quickly, as according to the  protocol I can confirm I have reviewed the file and can confirm the application has been considered normally.”

Cllr Les George (Conservative –  Caersws): “We have received a very well presented and detailed explanation and I have read right through the report and cannot see any problem with this application.

“It won’t affect anyone else and seems an excellent idea.”

Cllr George recommended the application be approved and it was voted through unanimously.
