James Evans MS has criticised the Welsh Government after it confirmed that planned overnight resurfacing works on the A40 in Crickhowell have been delayed until mid-April.
The overnight closures, which were previously due to begin in late February, have been delayed due to design changes to a pedestrian crossing included in the scheme.
A Welsh Government spokesperson said the revised programme means works will not start until mid-April, with the exact date to be announced once confirmed.
The overnight closures will affect a section of the A40 between Standard Street and the Manor Hotel access, with closures anticipated nightly from 7pm to 7am, although officials say they will engage with local councillors and residents closer to the start date before finalising the arrangements.. The Welsh Government has also confirmed the closure will affect all traffic, including cars, cyclists, pedestrians and livestock.
James Evans MS, Senedd Member for Brecon and Radnorshire, said: “Residents and businesses in Crickhowell need clear information and reliable delivery, not another delay and another period of uncertainty.
“The Welsh Government must now publish a firm timetable as soon as possible and work with the community to minimise disruption, especially for local businesses that rely on evening trade and for residents who simply need to get about safely.
“If design changes are needed, then fine, but we need reassurance that the pedestrian crossing and wider scheme will be delivered properly, safely, and with proper local engagement rather than last-minute changes and shifting dates.”
