YSTRADGYNLAIS has been complimented by judges for its entry into the national competition Wales in Bloom.

The judges arrived in the town last Thursday and appeared to have been impressed by how the community has pulled together to give the town a splash of colour.

Ystradgynlais is also more eco-friendly and green now as a result of efforts made by community group Blodau Ystradgynlais, with help from schools and other groups such as the scouts and guides.

The town is hoping to beat its silver medal from last year and will find out how well it’s done in the competition on Friday, September 14.

Blodau Ystradgynlais coordinator Cynthia Davies said: “It seemed to go really well – the judge told us that as he was driving into Ystradgynlais he slowed right down and said ‘wow!’. He was very impressed by how much had been done by such a small core of volunteers to get this town looking how it does.

“He also told us ‘if I could bottle what you have here and sell it, I’d be a millionaire by Christmas’, which we were very pleased with and it’s made us quite hopeful for the results in September.”
